RETAIL IN CRISIS : Urban Outfitters in trouble?

Things are not good at Urban Outfitters this year as the chain store has hit headlines for all the wrong reasons and now again for their dramatic drop in sales.

First up there was the knock off necklaces which were ripped off a young designer earlier in the year causing shoppers to boycott the store (including Miley Cyrus of all people) Then there was the Navajo underwear issue which saw UO critised for selling underwear with a print labelled as 'Navajo' which was deemed as 'insensitive' and then finally there was the underage model problem where UO released a series of T-shirts featuring an underage models crotch without even securing her permission.
Now it seems all this and the lack that they are just out of touch right now have ensured a 27% drop in sales - which is not small change - and have caused concern and a lack of confidence amongst investors. The company are keen to get back on track and have blamed the lack of co-ordination of their stock on the drop. Pieces which do not go together apparently and have said that this is a 'misstep' and not simply, 'the end'.
I have to say that I used to love UO, but recently I just don't bother with them anymore. It started when I realised that they were massively overpriced and finished with my lack of interest in their stock. I hope they can pull it back and start fixing the mistake but it looks like it could mean new marketing and new buyers to breathe a bit of fresh air into the once cool but now boringly hipster brand....
