Today’s Vintage Vision is undoubtedly one of my favorites! With an undeniable sex appeal and that enviable physique, this style maven definitely made her stylish impact with a robust presence and flawless beauty. Through her work, she depicted strong and opinionated women, while serving as that source of motivation to those who admired her. Anywho, let’s give credit where it’s due – please help me in paying homage to Miss
Pam Grier.
Pam Grier was born in Winston-Salem, North Carolina on May 26, 1949. As a young girl, the family moved consistently due to her father’s military career – with this, Grier and her siblings lived in various locations including England and Denver, Colorado. Despite the constant moves, the young actress started to cultivate her talent early; thus, Grier appeared in several high school productions and even competed in beauty contests to assist in raising money for college.
In 1967, Pam Grier moved to Los Angeles, California where she was soon discovered by director Jack Hill. The popularity behind the multiracial beauty grew as she began to blossom in the early 1970s – she starred in movies such a
Coffy,
Sheba Baby,
Friday Foster and the legendary
Foxy Brown. Grier mastered the art of playing bold, strong and assertive women while her style evolution inspired the signature fashion of the era.
Pam Grier was the queen of the 1970s! There was no one who could rock a ‘fro or oversized sunnies like this woman! From her killer maxi dress and thigh high boots combination to the crop tops and low-rise bell bottoms, she encouraged women to accept all their curves. With a killer charm and overflowing confidence, Grier defined the style of a decade. You name it – she’s rocked it. Her cleavage-baring silhouettes and bold statement accessories (including that revolver) helped to solidify her place as a style icon.
No matter what she flaunted this star was an absolute bombshell! Aside from the title of “sex symbol”, she managed to maintain a glamorous and chic appearance. I can honestly say that her influence certainly spans to this present day. She was, and still is, a pillar of inspiration for young women. Her style has stood the test of time and her beauty remains timeless. So, Miss Pam Grier, we salute you.
