Through The Garden Gate : July 2018

Borage

Almost the end of another month in the garden. A very dry and dusty one at that. Strange that I should be writing this post as the rain lashes on the windows. The first proper rain all month.

Honesty Seed Heads

A Parched Garden
Comparing to the last two July's a lot of the lushness from previous years has not materialised. Yes the trumpet vine is prolifically clinging to the back of the house. Understandably so, as it's a mediterranean plant. Disaster happened yesterday with the gale force winds. It collapsed and had to be rewired to the house. Picture 'muggins' holding it up with a broom handle, while better half refixed it to the house wall.

The Sedums are much more advanced than usual this July and the agapanthus have already peaked and starting to form seed heads.

We're pleased with the Myrtle . It clings to the bottom fence and has now poked through to the other side to reach the sunlight.

A shady area of the top garden has been transformed. It had become very swamped by a clump forming bamboo. Earlier this Spring we had it split and moved. Now we have transformed the area with geraniums and a hanging basket with petunias. It's a lovely area especially with the fountain.

Hollyhocks planted last year have continued to flourish as do the cannas.

A solitary New Dawn rose has appeared in a very shady part of the garden and several rogue magnolia flowers have appeared for a second helping of this delicious plant.

The sweet pea trellis is very sparse this year but the Abelia bush in the distance is as prolific as ever.

Tomatoes are now abundant although I struggle to keep up with the quantity of water they need. They were definitely glad of the rainfall today.

Crocomosia are a very welcome addition at this time of year and the Tansy complements them well.

So how has you garden fared; is it parched too with lack of rain, or is it flourishing well? What has been your favourite plant for July?

I'm joining Sarah as usual for her Through The Garden Gate. Why don't you click on the link and join in too.
